Apple’s new Raleigh, NC-area campus announcement is the type of corporate announcement that often flies under the radar. The Raleigh / Research Triangle area is home to many technology companies notably SAS of Cary, NC. The Raleigh-area is home to a highly educated workforce with deep Software experience (not to mention it is a relatively inexpensive market as compared to other Technology hubs). We believe investing in this location will help Tim Cook and Apple close the AI gap between it, Google (the AI leader) and Microsoft. SAS is known for its employee-centric culture instilled by SAS co-founder and CEO Jim Goodnight. However, despite SAS’ employee-friendly reputation, Apple has an allure and a currency that we believe will coax more than a few data scientists away from SAS HQ. Apple expects to create more than 3,000 new jobs across machine learning, artificial intelligence, software engineering and more within the new Raleigh-area campus.
