Is anyone surprised by the fact that Google terminated employees without notification other than automated user account deactivations? Google is a Quant-centric company founded by two Quants (Larry Page and Sergey Brin) and led by a hand-picked, data-driven, quant-centric CEO (Sundar Pichai). You won’t find empathy at the top of Page’s nor Brin’s nor Pichai’s personality attribute list. Companies are a reflection of the founders’ / CEO’s personality. It just so happens that Google’s institutional personality is similar to HAL 9000.
