We created a U.S. Dollar index which measures the value of a Dollar based on an ounce of Gold. We set the base year at 1970, just before President Nixon took the U.S. off of the Gold standard in August 1971 (the worst policy decision in American history as it has given politicians the ability to print money/devalue the currency at will).

We set the base year value at 1,000. The USD lost approximately 99% of its value within 10 years of moving off of the Gold standard (see chart below).
